- Our History
Sacred Heart Church, Patliputra Parish, is a popular church in Patna town. This Church’s foundation stone was laid on the 9th of June, 1998 in the presence of Arch Bishop Benedict J Osta SJ along with Mr Jacob and Father Devasiya T Chirayil along with a small crowd representing the local area people.
On 23rd December 2001, the new Church was blessed and dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus by Arch Bishop of Patna ArchDiocese Benedict J Osta SJ in the presence of a large crowd of faithful from Kurji Parish, Patliputra Colony, New Patliputra Colony, Boring road, Gosai tola, Mahesh Nagar, Rajiv Nagar, S. K. Puri, Anandpuri Nehru Nagar and Patel Nagar etc.
After separation from Kurji Parish, Father Joseph Mathathilani became the first Parish Priest of the Sacred Heart Church on 6th of August 2006.
Parish Priest house was built adjacent to the Church.
In July 2009 after the transfer of Father Joseph Mathathilani Father Devasiya T. Chirayil was appointed as the Second Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Church Patliputra Parish. He served the Sacred Heart Church for nearly 10 years, during his tenure Church was blessed with many devotees and became one of the most popular church in Patna Archdiocese.
After the demise of Father Devasiya T Chirayil in July 2019, Father Martin Anand became Parish Priest and he is still serving the Parishioners with the same jeal and faith.
